What is Monkeypox?

Monkeypox is a virus that causes pox, similar to smallpox

What are the symptoms of Monkeypox?

The main monkeypox symptom is a rash on the body. The rash usually looks like pimples and can be painful. The rash is normally found on the hands, feet, face, or genitals. The rash usually begins about 3 weeks after becoming infected and can last for 2 weeks to a month. You may also have flu-like symptoms. If you have these symptoms you can go to a doctor and get tested.

How can you get infected with Monkeypox?

Monkeypox is spread through contact with the monkeypox rash. This can occur during sex, but it can also spread through other direct skin-to-skin contacts such as hugging.

How can I protect myself from Monkeypox?

Using a condom during sex can protect from Monkeypox. Checking for rashes on any sexual partners and avoiding sex in case rashes are found can also protect from Monkeypox. Monkeypox vaccines are also available which give great protection from Monkeypox. Generally, avoid any direct contact with rashes. 

Can anyone get infected by Monkeypox?

Yes, anyone can get infected by Monkeypox no matter their identity or sexual orientation. Unfortunately, Monkeypox has spread in a high rate in the LGBTQ+ community particularly, but it can infect anyone.
